(London, Ontario) – Three members of the Fanshawe Falcons badminton team competed at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Badminton Championships from March 4–7, hosted by the University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ). Arpitraj Sinha (London, ON) delivered an exceptional tournament, capturing the national silver medal in the men's singles bracket. Joining Sinha at nationals was the men's doubles pair of Ty Nguyen (London, ON) and Thao Le (Tillsonburg, ON), who placed fourth in their bracket after advancing to the bronze medal match.
For Sinha, this marks the third time he has reached the national podium, having previously won bronze in 2021–22 and silver in 2023–24. However, this is Sinha's first national medal in singles, with both of his previous medals coming in doubles. Sinha's performance was strong throughout the tournament, posting a 4-1 record in the group stage before defeating Mono Suttinon of SAIT in a comeback effort, 19-21, 21-16, 21-14, in his semifinal matchup.
In the national championship match, Sinha squared off against fellow OCAA competitor Tim Lock of the Humber Hawks, who was the only player to defeat him during the group stage. In a hard-fought contest, Sinha fell short of the gold medal, dropping the match 13-21, 10-21.
Despite falling short of the ultimate prize, Sinha's silver medal adds to his legacy with the Falcons badminton program. He is now the most decorated national medalist in program history, and the silver marks the best national finish ever by a Falcons men's singles player.
