Falcons Men's Basketball Victorious at Falcons Fest
The Falcons men’s basketball team (7-7, 5th West) faced the Redeemer Royals (2-11, 9th West) in the second game of Falcons Fest on Saturday afternoon.
(London, ON) – The Falcons men's basketball team (7-7, 5th West) faced the Redeemer Royals (2-11, 9th West) in the second game of Falcons Fest on Saturday afternoon. Not to be outdone by the women's team before them, Fanshawe's men's team kept the winning vibes rolling in the Glenn as they took down the visiting Royals 83-69.
In a tightly contested first quarter, the Falcons outscored the Royals 20-15, thanks in large part to Caleb Labelle (Sharon, ON) scoring an efficient six points in the opening frame, setting the tone for what was a monster game for him.
In the second quarter, Fanshawe's defence stepped up by holding the Royals to four made field goals. Brandon Bogart (St. Thomas, ON), who led all Falcons scorers with 22 points, paced the way with seven points in the quarter. In addition to his scoring, Bogart set up his teammates on multiple occasions, as he led all players in the game with seven assists. Fanshawe carried a 41-25 lead into the second half.
Coming out of the half, both teams were ready to score the basketball, but Fanshawe was able to maintain their lead by outscoring the Royals 24-22 in the third quarter. Bogart and Labelle continued to lead the offensive charge for the Falcons, combining for 14 points in the frame. Labelle, who had an aforementioned monster game, finished his night with 18 points on 6/9 shooting from the field and a whopping 17 rebounds, a season-high for him.
In the fourth, the Falcons were able to maintain their pace and close out Redeemer by a score of 83-69. First-year guard Zakai Davis (Kitchener, ON) has seen extended court time coming out of the new year, playing a season-high 19 minutes and picking up five assists in the process, including three in the fourth quarter.
The Falcons' next game will be on Friday, January 30, when they'll make a short trip to Lambton to face off against the Lions (5-8, 7th West) at 8:00 p.m.
