The Fanshawe men’s basketball team (8-9, 6th West) faced the 10th-ranked team in Canada, the Mohawk Mountaineers (13-5, 3rd West), on Wednesday night in the Falcons’ final home game of the regular season.
(London, ON) – The Fanshawe men's basketball team (8-9, 6th West) faced the 10th-ranked team in Canada, the Mohawk Mountaineers (13-5, 3rd West), on Wednesday night in the Falcons' final home game of the regular season. The Birds completed the upset over the visiting Mountaineers, who entered the night on a four-game winning streak.
Before tip-off, Fanshawe honoured three senior players: Brandon Bogart (St. Thomas, ON), Caleb Labelle (Sharon, ON) and Da'Marion Ennis (Windsor, ON). The trio has been an integral part of the Falcons program throughout their careers.
Fanshawe's offense came out firing, shooting an efficient 52.4% from the field in the opening quarter. Addy Leaver (Trenton, ON) set the tone early with three quick buckets. Brandon Bogart followed with eight points on 3/4 shooting, helping the Falcons build a 26-14 lead after one.
Mohawk responded in the second, outscoring the Birds 21-9 in the frame. Despite the cold stretch offensively, Fanshawe regrouped late to enter halftime tied at 35-35.
In the third quarter, the Falcons settled in defensively, holding Mohawk to just 13 points. Fanshawe did enough offensively to edge the Mountaineers 15-13 in the frame, highlighted by four points and a key block from Lennon Campos (Georgetown, ON), who provided a spark out of the break.
The fourth quarter belonged to Bogart. The senior guard poured in 11 of his game-high 30 points in the final frame, taking full control down the stretch. In what could have been his final game at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre, Bogart delivered a complete performance, shooting 10/18 from the field and 6/11 from beyond the arc. Behind his offensive outburst and continued defensive intensity, the Falcons secured the 66-59 upset victory.
The Falcons will close out the regular season on the road against the Niagara Knights (8-9, 7th West) on Saturday, February 14, with playoff seeding implications on the line.
