Men’s Indoor Soccer Team Advances to OCAA Medal Round
(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Falcons Men's Indoor Soccer team advanced to the medal round after a successful first day of the OCAA Provincial Championship in Vaughan hosted by Centennial College. The Fanshawe Men's Indoor Soccer program has advanced to the OCAA provincial final four every year since the 2017-18 season.
The Falcons finished second place in their pool after round robin competition with a record of 2-1-0. In Fanshawe's first game, they defeated the Seneca Sting 1-0 on a beautiful goal from Dante D'Oria (London, ON), assisted by Carlos Cabral (London, ON). Excellent saves by Falcon goalkeeper Dylan DaSilva (London, ON) kept the Fanshawe squad ahead despite pressure from Seneca down the stretch.
The Birds then faced the St. Clair Saints in their second game of pool play. Fanshawe went down 2-0 before settling in. Oscar Calvo (London, ON) found the back of the net for the Falcons, but St. Clair quickly regained their two goal lead to go up 3-1. Juan Sebastian Gomez Galeano (London, ON) then scored for Fanshawe to cut the Saints' lead to 3-2 at half time. The red and white found their groove in the second half, with Oscar Calvo finding Gomez Galeano to tie the game. Late in the match, a strike from Cabral was tipped into the back of the St. Clair net by Ronald Calvo (London, ON) to win 4-3.
After two wins, Fanshawe solidified their spot in the final four. They then faced defending champion Humber in their final pool game and fell by a close score of 2-1. Fanshawe will now play in a semi-final contest against George Brown at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
