(London, ON) - The Falcons men's indoor soccer team is advancing to day two of the OCAA Indoor Soccer Championships on March 12 where they will have an opportunity to land on the provincial podium.
The Falcons got off to an excellent start to day one of pool play, opening with a 4-1 win over St. Clair, avenging a 4-0 loss to those same Saints two weeks earlier at the OCAA Regional Championship tournament. Goals from Jakob Bancewicz (London, ON) Darius Darling (Cambridge, ON), Nico Jimenez (London, ON) and Ryan Haines (Stratford, ON) lifted the Fanshawe offence to victory.
The Falcons carried the momentum from their St. Clair victory into the next match against the Seneca Sting. Darling and Jimenez continued their hot offensive play, each netting another goal with teammate Deseron MacLean (London, ON) getting on the scoresheet with a goal of his own. Fanshawe topped Seneca 3-1 to clinch the first seed in Pool A and advance to the final four.
Despite clinching the first seed after their second match, the Falcons still had one more game remaining against Redeemer. Dante D'Oria (London, ON) and Bancewicz netted goals as Fanshawe drew with Redeemer, 2-2.
The Falcons will now play in the championship semi-finals tomorrow, March 12 at 11:00 a.m. with the opponent still to be determined. Winners of the semi-finals will move on to play for the championship at 2:30 p.m. while losers of the semi-finals will matchup for bronze at 1:00 p.m.
