Fanshawe Captures Bronze at OCAA Championship
(London, ON) – The Falcons Men's Volleyball team (17-5, 3rd West) competed at the OCAA Championship from February 22-23, capturing a bronze medal and a podium finish for the third straight season. The OCAA final four event was hosted by Cambrian College.
The Falcons started their action with a tough semi-final matchup against the No. 3 nationally ranked Humber Hawks (20-2, 1st West) who were looking to claim their fifth OCAA title in a row. Despite the Falcons best efforts, they were stifled by the eventual champions 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-13).
After falling short in the semi-finals, the Falcons still had their sights set on the podium as they took on the surprise team of the playoffs, the St. Clair Saints (8-14, 8th West), a team that had already completed multiple upsets to make their way to the final four. In what was a tightly contested match which saw both teams trade the first two sets, Fanshawe took complete control in the third and never looked back, taking the match 3-1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-13, 25-16) to secure OCAA bronze.
The Falcons saw big performances from Blake Harnadek (Cottom, ON), Jayden Crowther (London, ON) and Tanner Paterson (Baden, ON). Harnadek received player of the game honours for Fanshawe against Humber while Crowther earned player of the game in the bronze medal match against St. Clair. Paterson's impressive play saw him earn OCAA Championship All-Star honours as he was a major key to Fanshawe's podium finish.
After a third straight year on the Provincial podium, Fanshawe will look to finish with an even shinier medal next season.
