(London, ON) – The Falcons men's volleyball team (9-4, 3rd West) closed out Falcons Fest with a matchup against the Sheridan Bruins (2-10, 9th West) and delivered an impressive 3-0 victory. With the win, the packed Falcons Fest crowd witnessed a perfect 4-0 record on the day for the Falcons teams.
The opening set started off well for Fanshawe, as they found themselves up by as much as six points halfway through the frame. However, the visiting Bruins showed resilience and made things interesting late, closing the gap to 24-22. Fortunately for Fanshawe, the following Sheridan serve missed the mark, allowing the Falcons to take the opening set 25-22.
The Falcons offense picked up dramatically after the first set, as they began to attack with much higher efficiency. Leading all point scorers in the match was Tyler Gibson (Richmond Hill, ON), who finished the night with 10 points. Gibson has been a welcome addition to the Falcons lineup in the new year, making an immediate impact offensively as Fanshawe looks to clinch a home playoff game down the stretch. The Falcons controlled the second set, taking it 25-17.
Sheridan wasn't going down without a fight in the third set, as the teams traded points back and forth. Fanshawe hunkered down when it mattered most, going on three separate three-point runs to help close out the set 25-18 and secure the 3-0 sweep. The Falcons net defense was strong throughout the match, forcing Sheridan to play inefficiently all night.
The Falcons will now have a break until next weekend, when they'll make the trip up north to Sudbury for matches against Boreal (0-12, 10th West) on Saturday, January 31st and Cambrian (8-2, 1st West) on Sunday, February 1st.
