Falcons Lose First Home Game of the Year Against Humber
(London Ontario) – The Fanshawe Women's Basketball team (2-3) fell short against the Humber Hawks (3-1) on Wednesday evening by a score of 71-59, dropping their first game at home this season.
The game got off to a slow start for both teams, but the Falcons were provided with a spark off the bench from Renee Maat (Oakville, ON) who scored a quick fast break bucket and finished the quarter perfect from the field.
Fanshawe got out to a lead in the second quarter as Jaimie Stahlbaum (Aylmer, ON) got things rolling for the Falcons with an easy putback score. However, a late push by Humber stole the lead back for the Hawks as Fanshawe found themselves down 32-26 at halftime.
The Falcons came out firing in the second half with an early 11-0 run to retake the lead 37-32. Fanshawe continuously fed recent OCAA Athlete of the Week honouree, Ashlyn Anderson (Latchford, ON) down low during the quarter to fuel their offence. The standout first year scored 12 points in the third frame and finished the night with a team-high 22 points on 8/13 from the field. Despite outscoring Humber 25-20 in the quarter, Fanshawe found themselves trailing by a point heading into the fourth.
Humber came out hot in the fourth quarter with a 12-0 run and never looked back, ultimately taking the game by a final score of 71-58.
The Falcons will look to get back on track on Wednesday November 13th against the Lambton Lions (3-0) at 6:00pm in the final outing of their four game homestand. Wednesday's game against the Lions will be Fanshawe's 519pursuit Sock game, where the Falcons will be taking donations of new pairs of socks to support the homeless community in London and area.
