Falcons Unable to Crack Nationally Ranked Hawks
(London, Ontario) – Fanshawe's Women's Volleyball team (8-8) welcomed in the undefeated Humber Hawks (17-0) for Falcons Fest but were unable to upset the fourth ranked team in the country, falling in straight sets 3-0.
Riding the wave of a five-game winning streak, the Falcons came ready to play in front of the home fans. Dana Sloan (London, ON) played well in the first set as she picked up multiple kills and digs to showcase her versatility. After slipping behind 22-16, Fanshawe went on a 6-0 run to even the set at 22. However, Humber composed themselves and were able to close the set 25-23.
The first set was an opportunity missed to punch a hole in the armour of the Hawks as the Falcons were unable to get that close in a set again. In the second set Grace McLean (Dorchester, ON) played well, helping keep the set tight throughout. She finished her night with a team high nine points and four blocks, but Fanshawe dropped the second 25-21.
In the third set Humber closed the door on the Falcons hopes as they won 25-15 to win the match three sets to none.
The Falcons will host their final home game of the season against the Redeemer Royals (8-8) which could have major playoff seeding implications. The Women's team will kick-start the action at 3:00 p.m. with the Men's team following at 5:00 p.m.
