Falcons Top Sault College in Five Sets
The Fanshawe Falcons women's volleyball (2-2) team took on the Sault College Cougars (0-5) in the first half of a back-to-back on Saturday night at Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre, picking up their second win of the season 3-2.
(London, ON) - The Fanshawe Falcons women's volleyball (2-2) team took on the Sault College Cougars (0-5) in the first half of a back-to-back on Saturday night at Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre, picking up their second win of the season 3-2.
The first set was a back and forth affair that saw the visiting Cougars make a statement with a 26-24 set win.
The Falcons were able to settle in the second set cruising to a 25-14 set win. Falcons rookie Autumn Mikel (Mitchell, ON) was very impressive in this match, collecting a career-high 16 kills on the outside, 10 of which came in the first two sets.
The third set was another strong showing by Fanshawe, taking it by a score of 25-15. For the Falcons, Mikel wasn't the only rookie with a career night as Simone Pinsonneault (Gravelbourg, SK) put on a masterclass at the setter position with a career-high 45 assists in the match.
However, the visiting Cougars weren't going down without a fight as they scratched and clawed their way to a fifth set, claiming set number four by a score of 25-20.
In the fifth set the Falcons were determined to seal the deal at home and that's exactly what they did. Jillian Lancaster (London, ON) stepped up in the clutch with multiple points in the fifth set, helping Fanshawe close out Sault College 15-8 in the set and win the match 3-2.
The Falcons and Cougars will be right back at it tomorrow in the same spot, Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre for the second half of their back-to-back at 1:00 p.m.
